flower coaster

This is one of the patterns that I memorized when I was young when crafts' books were not available where I live, it started with casting on 14 stitches  then when one of the ladies asked me for around knitted  coaster pattern  I tried this with dk yarn  but it was big for a coaster size and small for  a mat. I tried different counts  and the smallest number I got was starting with 10 stitches

cast on 10

row 1 and all odd rows knit

2. knit 4 , yo, knit 4, turn (2 unworked st)

4. knit 4 , yo, knit 3,turn  ( 4 unworked st)

6. knit 4 , yo, knit2,turn  ( 6 unworked st)

8. knit 4 , yo, knit 1,turn  ( 8  unworked st)

10. cast off 4 ,knit to end

Repeat 10 more times

join both ends together 

cast on 14

row 1 and all odd rows knit

2. knit 4 , yo, knit 8, turn ( 2 unworked st)

4. knit 4 , yo, knit 7,turn  ( 4 unworked st)

6. knit 4 , yo, knit 8, turn  ( 6 unworked st)

8. knit 4 , yo, knit 6,turn    ( 8 unworked st)

10. cast off 4 ,knit to end 

repeat till the beginning and end meet

cast on 18

row 1 and all odd rows knit

2. knit 6 , yo, knit 10, turn leaving last 2 unworked

4. knit 6 , yo, knit 9,turn    ( 4 unworked st)

6. knit 6 , yo, knit8,leave last 2, turn   ( 6 unworked st)

8. knit 6 , yo,knit7,leave last 2, turn   ( 8 unworked st)

10.knit 6 , yo,knit7,leave last 2, turn    ( 10 unworked st)

12. cast off 6 ,knit to end

cast on 22

row 1 and all odd rows knit

2. knit 8 , yo, knit 12, turn leaving last 2 unworked

4. knit 8 , yo, knit 11,turn    ( 4 unworked st)

6. knit 8 , yo, knit10,leave last 2, turn   ( 6 unworked st)

8. knit 8 , yo,knit9,leave last 2, turn   ( 8 unworked st)

10.knit 8 , yo,knit8,leave last 2, turn    ( 10 unworked st)

12.knit 8 , yo,knit7,leave last 2, turn    ( 12 unworked st)

14. cast off 8,knit to end
